I have had a fabulous life. Lots of playing trumpet in a wide variety of ensembles and environments. I found I was meant to be a teacher and music education was challenging and rewarding. Retirement is all it’s cracked up to be. 🤣. I fish for bass. Other species sometimes bite too. Leslie is a big reason I’ve had a great life. Lincoln East 197

School Story

Fragments of my LEHS memories: performing and watching others perform at Spartan Spectacular. Traveling for Jazz Band contests and concerts. Winning the Doane Jazz Festival when Clark Terry was the clinician. Watching state basketball finals from the nosebleed seats. Delbert’s band shoes sailing high into the air during a halftime show and then seeing his baritone on the field after the band had left the field. Best “I quit” I’ve ever witnessed. Jimmy Spahn lifting the back end of a pinto at McDonald’s so he could talk to the girls that were inside the car. Steve Henderson driving in a “creative” style in the Nova. Intramural sports. The Eunuchs hands down was the best team name. Mr Hendricks just shook his head. Putting potatoes in tailpipes in the teacher’s lot. One car was there for weeks. Tom Larson rocking the Hammond B3 and Leslie speaker. Bruce Upchurch shredding the guitar. Parties in remote places. The “my parents are out of town” party that left my parents house in quite a mess. I’m sure I could go on. Would I do it again? No. But no regrets. Not even one letter.
